 Conservative magazine of news and politics. Founded in 1967 as The Alternative.

The American Prospect 

Progressive liberal monthly.  Founded in 1990, the Prospect describes itself as an "authoritative magazine of liberal ideas, committed to a just society, an enriched democracy, and effective liberal politics".

Foreign Affiars

Bi-monthly journal published by The Council on Foreign Relations.  Covers international relations and US foriegn policy. 

Foreign Policy

Bi-monthly global politics, foreign affairs, and economics magazine.  Founded in 1970, and best known for its Index of Failed States. 

Harper's Magazine

Second oldest monthly magazine, founded in 1850.  General interst magazine covering current events, politics, society, the environment, and culture.

Human Events

Conservaitve weekly, founded in 1944.  Holds high the "Reaganesque principles of free enterprise, limited government and, above all, a staunch, unwavering defense of American freedom"

Mother Jones

Liberal and progressive bi-monthly covering politics, and known for its investigative reporting.

The Nation  

Founded in 1865 by the Abolitionist movment.  Today, it is a left-leaning weekly focused on politics and culture.  Considered to be a voice of the American left.

National Review

Bi-weekly conservative magazine, founded in 1955 by William F. Buckley, Jr.  Considered to be the voice of the American right.

The New Republic

Centerist semi-monthly magazine.  Tends towards left-leaning stances on social issues, and more conservaitve on foreign policy issues.

Newsweek

 Second largest news weekly (after Time), founded in 1933.

The New Yorker

General interest literary magazine, founded in 1925.  Well known for its satire, commentary, essays, and cartoons.  It is published 47 times a year.

The New York Times Review of Books

 As a supplement to the New York Times newspaper, this is one of the most influencial book review sources. 

The New York Times Magazine

Weekly magazine supplement to the New York Times.  Frequently features articles on foreign affairs and foreign policy.

Policy Review

 Conservative journal founded by the Heritage Foundation, now owned by the Hoover Institution in Washington D.C.

Non-politically aligned magazine of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Boils down a variety of issues, including foreign affairs, so as to make them accessible to the general public.
